Post Track #29 - Super Metroid Metal: The Brood
Here is the topic for the 29th Metroid Metal track, The Brood. Also known as Lower Crateria, and later used for Pirate Homeworld in Corruption, this track harkens back to 1996-style metal, and makes use of the Reaper production software in ways Audition and Sonar couldn't.

It's not that Audition and Sonar couldn't do it, it's just that it's easier and more fun to be creative when you're not actively fighting your tools. Well, usually anyway.

I would mix all my songs in Reaper even if it was awful. "Nah man, I just threw it all together in Reaper. Don't worry if you think it's not metal enough, my software knows."

New track is good ! It doesn't dethrone Tallon Overworld as my number 1 but it does the job fine ! Yet, I didn't recognize at all the original track... Need to play some Metroid gamez again...

You guys are somehow evolving. At first, it simply was Metal instrumental, now, it sounds like some kind of hybrid Metal... Instrumental Technical Prog Metal... Yeah, that's about it. ;)

Trying to keep them all a little different, which is hard.

Fantastic yet again! I was wondering when this one would show up. Awesome. I love the experimental ones. Norfair (NES) is still in my top 5 list.

great song. and Reaper is the freakin man!

um...if it was a man. :shifty:

seriously, what do y'all find great and different about Reaper? i dropped Audition for Reaper a long time ago, but i don't do as much recording as i used to. i recommended it to a friend and he dropped everything else for it too. just not being as close to it now and as you guys are (since you seem to use it on a regular basis), what are the things you find most helpful?

peace

Customization, light on memory, logical choices for the interface, great fx packed in, love the editing tools, more stuff.

I love things like regions and the render queue and etc and etc.

The lower system resource usage is worth the price alone over Audition. I love how it handles multiple takes too. It's similar to how I manually faked it in Audition, but intentional. Also, it makes MIDI easy enough that I might try it some time. I had some weird problems with tracks syncing (or to be more specific, becoming not in sync) in Audition that drove me up a wall. None of that so far in Reaper. Stuff I collect from collaborators works just fine too. Before I had to go in a cut a few milliseconds here, insert a couple there to get things to line up. It was awful. Reaper makes it fun to record again for me. Well, it was always fun, but now I don't end up getting frustrated fighting Audition.

I've never tried Reaper. After a very brief excursion with FL Studio I turned solely to Cakewalk Sonar and haven't looked back. I have used Pro Tools in school but I'm stubborn and refuse to change. Is there a demo of Reaper?

chunk & g - thx for the replies. cool to hear why other's like it. y'all rock, btw.

musicallyinspired - definitely check it out. i hope you find it worth it. my friend with a home studio, 10's of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and programs (Cubase, Nuendo, all that) started using reaper, he only uses reaper now. and his stuff sounds awesome.

Is it just me, or does the chorus remind anybody of Foxy Lady by Jimi Hendrix?

Anyways awesome piece added to the library!

Like some people have mention already I gotta try reaper too.

Hey Stemage are you still using iZotope Ozone (3 or 4) mastering software and the pc your brought back in 2007? Cause I just saw your youtube video on "m.m. Drum Programming in Reaper and Battery 3 - Tutorial". I'm guessing you had some upgrades lately.
