I have played Warcraft 2 and the first Command and Conquer with a buddy over dial-up modem. Those were fun times. The first Age of Empires as well.

I guess my favorite Metroid Metal tracks are Brinstar, Item Collect, and Norfair, but I'm crazy biased.

My opinion completely differs from the seeming majority.

If I was to rank the songs:

The Theme, Brinstar, Kraid: Perfect, powerful, faithful to the original. Impossible to dislike.

Item Room, Escape: Great, the only flaw is that they could be shorter.

Norfair, Tourian: Nothing wrong with them, but nothing that outstanding.

Ridley: Repetitive, just as the Original, so nothing to really blame.

Ending, Tunnel, Crateria: Epic. Win.

M3 Intro: I was helding high expectation of this one, so it sorta let me down. The 1:06-1:47 , 3:35-4:16 and 5:21-5:41 parts are sick, but
the whole song kind of drags along and don't quite have the game feel.
Half-good, Half-Bad

M3 Brinstar: Nothing short of perfect, very well adapted, full of variations, bass on the first plan stomping your face, several guitar layers, from the mellow to the aggressive, and the drums tying all up in the right place.

Boss Medley: For me this is Metroid Metal black sheep.
The transitions and added parts to the song are impecable. Everything else is messed up. This song have a sort of staccato feel all over that takes all the speed/violent Boss battle pace, the notes seem out of the tempo.
Mother Brain and Ridley theme were wasted...

Maridia: The same as M3 Brinstar, it nailed the very same maridia feel from the game. This song just flows perfectly.

Low Norf: Full of creativity, Full of power. Genius adaptation of the theme.
The intro, the kicking-in distortion, the dissonant notes, the bridge to the ending. Incredible.

Space Pirates: Don't know why people praise this one so much. The drums are great, but the rest is rather average to Metroid Metal standards.

Prime Theme: I would say the epitome of Metroid Metal. The melody is wonderful. Flawless from the beginning to the end. Highlights on 1:40-2:28
and 3:49-4:08.

Phendrana Drifts: A soothing melody, packing the punch when needed.

Though I respect your opinions, I disagree with a lot of those.

It may be because they're new tunes to my ears, but I'm currently hooked on the following:

Metroid 2 - "The Tunnel"
This track is killer. A kick-ass rendition with awesome riffing and solos. At about the 1:00 mark it really starts to shine, then at 1:20 it becomes brilliant, and then at 1:28 it transitions into such coolness that I passed out. Epic.

I may be one of the few who genuinely enjoyed the hours I spent playing Metroid 2, so that adds to my enjoyment of this track. I wonder if there are any other themes from the game that would make awesome covers..

Metroid 3 - "Prelude / Theme"
The music in this track was among my very favorite video game music of all time in the first place, so having it all arranged with such metallic force in one track is so great that I got goosebumps the first time I listened to it.

Metroid 3 - "Brinstar" and "Boss Medley"
Perfect. Makes me want to drop everything and play the game again.

Metroid Prime - "Title / Menu Theme"
Excellent. PLEASE give this same treatment to the title/menu music from Prime2!!

I actually do agree with you on most of those points, with a couple of exceptions. For the originals, I love the Theme and Kraid, they're addictive, i actually dislike original Brinstar, i find it kinda boring. I agree with you completely on Super Brinstar and Maridia, great tracks that NAILED the nostalgic feelings from Super Metroid. Low. Norfair is also a great interpretation, had always been one of my favs. I also agree on Space Pirates, the drums are fantastic, but other than a couple of cool guitar riffs, it's pretty much repetitive, nothing special.

I actually didn't like the Prime Theme that much. It's good, and some parts are just perfect for that feeling from the game, but overall, it's a cool tune, nothing too special. I do like the Boss Medley, i just don't like how the Spore Spawn part at the beginning is SO repetitive and takes way too long to get to the Ridely Riff. Other than that, i like it a whole bunches :D

Tunnel is great (amazing solo!) Crateria has a fantastic way of those two guitars playing back and forth (plus another sick solo) and I actually don't like the ending that much. Don't know why, didn't really do it for me.

I feel the same way for original Norfair and Tourian, good songs with some notable parts, just not fantastic. Ridely theme is ok, not something you wanna listen to over and over like Kraid. I extremely loved Prime 3 Theme, but obviously there are some parts that prevented it from reaching perfection. The first 53 seconds are like "WTF", could've at least been shorter, and the first section of the actual music playing gets a little repetitive, but other than that, I found it to be a fantastic instrumental with some killer effects and electric guitar playing (and yes, the acoustic section was f**king awesome). As for Phendrana, its tied with Prime 3 and Kraid as my favorite tracks, it's just A LITTLE repetitive, but its an uber epic ballad, so i must love.

Phendrana, and Space Pirates. I think space pirates is my favorite, because I remember always getting nervous when that song started playing in Prime 1. And now the metal recording gives off that same energy that is just incredible.

Which one? Norfair? Oh wait that's from Prime. I don't know why it's called Norfair since it's obviously Magmoor...

Well I gotta say that I'm a sucker for the newer drumming style that started somewhere around Space Pirates (the older drums sounded all like they came straight from general midi and bothered me because they all sounded the same.) My favorite tracks are probably the Prelude, the new MP3 track, and a couple more that I'm forgetting right now.

I kinda get tired of alot of the original metroid tracks; the melody just can get really repetitive. I'm also not crazy about the Prime menu track. However, I really have to give credit to the original Norfair. Stem took a bunch of annoying beeping sounds that didn't make much musical sense, and then turned it into something brilliant and interesting.

Well... I think he means more the arrangements, not the source material. The newer stuff is less repetitive basically.

Heh, funny how this was started by U_R, anyways. I have been listening to The Tunnel over and over again lately, I'm just falling in love with it. Sometimes I just skip to that rip-roaring guitar solo towards the end, It's one of the best I've heard if not the best. It's Tenacious Goat right?
