Has anyone else been playing this? It's a pixelated sandbox game that starts out seeming pretty stupid but has a deep crafting system that lets you do some pretty amazing stuff, up to an including rollercoasters. You start with nothing and soon realize that at night, monsters roam the map. You can punch stuff, collect it and use it to craft better things like weapons, armor, mechanical contraptions, food, building materials, you name it.

The whole level is generated from scratch when you start. As you explore, the game generates more land when you need it. so the level is really never ending. The file size simply increases.

It's still far from even being in beta but it's on 10 bucks for the full version. Even the free version is pretty damn fun though.

Crafting guide

here's an awesome video of a guy blowing up the map he made with about 8,000 sticks of dynamite.

more explosions.

and here's a picture of someone building a pyramid in the game.

and a picture thread on the official forums.

Post Re: Minecraft
I played it on the free weekend when the website was down, I was actually about to buy it to try it out. It was fun for a while, but once I read on the wiki what it's mainly about, I lost interest. I thought it would be an adventure game with progression to a certain point, the crafting was great for that. But it turns out that the crafting is very limited to a certain point and loses originality quickly, and the main purpose of the game is to create and design. While I love constructing things and classically styled games, I decided not to buy this one.

Then again, I've never tried the multiplayer, so I might reconsider based on what I read.

Find a game that you can run with good graphics and a randomly generated world as big as this. Enjoy playing with a one meter field of view.

It generates a worldspace roughly the size of Europe for you to go nuts in.

So yes.

You guys probably saw this on Kotaku, but here's a link to a video taken on the Penny Arcade multiplayer Minecraft server.

They made Rapture.

And here's a link to an Isometric view of the entire server. You can see Rapture in the middle.

Actually, I believe it's infinite. You can keep going and going and going, but it generates it as you go. The only limit, is your computers ability to handle such awesomeness.

I bought the game the other day, it is the best game I've played in a long time, practically because I barely play games these days.

The guys at Zelda Universe made the inside of the Deku tree.

If you're having too much trouble with monsters you can set it to peaceful and just have a relaxing time building.

Post Re: Minecraft
Peaceful is like creative mode, but with crafting available.

Water's pretty messed in this game. You have to erase water "source" blocks by adding something like sand and then removing it afterwards. I used a few steps to get it done:

First step, i made my glass frame (20x20) up just past the water line. Then, i filled the entire inside with sand and shovelled it out. After that, I added my trees and cabin and all that stuff. When that was complete, I made my glass underwater tunnel to the island. For the tunnel, I started with the sand first and then enclosed it with glass. That way, I could go from the inside of the main chamber and hollow out the sand. Finally, I made the chamber ceiling. I filled the remaining squares above the glass ceiling so it was level just above the water line. With the glass and sand, I could only remove the surface layer first so the water source blocks could regenerate (and I wouldn't have eternally flowing water). After that, I could remove all the blocks below down to the chamber ceiling.

It's a kind of complicated procedure given the properties of water in the game. But, if you can get familiar with the water source and flow behaviour, it's a bit easier to follow.

I find it gets boring from time to time, so I turn mobs on. Then I remember there is a forest outside my fort and so unfriendly mobs are everywhere.

I could always remove the forest but my place would look so boring.

I find single player boring after about an hour, but I can play all day on a multiplayer server. Seriously, I spent 30 hours recreating Cornelia for a server.

There's been an insurgence of 8-bit and pixel art on my friends' server. We've gotten bored of building big structures, so we've moved on to this and minecart tracks.

Just bought it because of that screen of the whole server thing, that looks too awesome to turn down. Also, when it sent me to paypal, it said "Logga in" and I'm like is this da ork page? And everything else looked jumbled. Then I see at the top for the language select "Svenska". Oh...

1.8, or Adventure update part 1 just came out. If you bought this game then I recommend giving it a try. New baddies, HUGE biomes, new lighting, more complex combat, hunger bar that affects everything you do, exp bar (currently useless but will be finished in adventure update part 2), underground content is far more robust, creative mode added (flying unlimited blocks and no damage), and a load of new craft-able blocks to pretty up your fortress with.

This is by far the biggest update to come so far and I'd play it just for the new world generation.

Some of the stuff I have made over the time I've been playing.

Image
It's old and kinda gone, but I loved it while I had it. Me and my friends were running a multiplayer server and this was our hub, a Nordic longhouse.

Image
The top of the building in the last picture. It's a "science lab."

Image
My first world, it's still around as it's my biggest world yet. I've dumped more time into this world then is worth talking about, but I'm overly proud of it.

Image
Inside the big building is a recreation of the nether. I've also added a farm behind the tower.

I love that Nordic longhouse. I wish I could get into minecraft, but for some reason I just can't. I don't know why. I bought it, but I never play it. I have put a couple hours into trying it. I'll try it again later.
