Post Re: Portal 2 - Assume The Party Escort Submission Position
Thank you guys for blocking spoilers. I want to read about your happiness, but I don't want to spoil a thing. :) Currently I'm wandering around trying to figure out where to go after a few puzzles with the repulsion gel. It's too bad all games can't be this polished and perfect, but not all devs have Steam to fund their efforts I guess. This game is perfect so far.

I've been trying to admire all the environments since it's clear how much time was put into them. You guys watch the dye cutter? Or the sentry builder machine? AHmazing. The music is also perfect. Have you guys run a skybridge right above your head yet? Sweet little techno ditty there.

I finished the first 3 clumps of rooms with chunk. We're so smart. I forgot I'd gotten a new graphics card, so I'm glad I went the PC direction instead of 360.

Seriously. One of my friends said the sheer scale of Aperture is just frightening. It really is. I can't even begin to count how many times I've thought to myself how massive the place is.

I was thinking the exact same thing.Even aside from when you're coming up through the hatches sealing each of the ever larger areas, there was that one map which showed that even as large as the shaft was, it was only one of 9!! such shafts. Holy crap.

Also, loved the styling of the different labs through the 50s and 80s. Classic!

The commentary track for the turret-builder is great. They didn't get to include it, but there was to be an "un-boxer" right underneath that took apart the turrets for recycling, and threw the packaging onto a growing pile of unrecycled boxes. That's such an Aperture move, I love it. (Not really a spoiler but I figure some you might want to save it for your own commentary playthrough.)

I'll probably be starting another game with the commentary on either tonight or sometime this weekend. I did see the turret builder, and I probably watched it for like ten minutes. Fascinating stuff.

Can you still get achievements in commentary mode? I might do another SP playthrough soon.

I sat and stared at the dye cutter and other machinery for a really long time, just admiring everything.

I'm also happy to report that the 360 version plays extremely smoothly and looks and sounds great. Loading times between levels were well placed (i.e. not intrusive) and not too long. The source engine is smooth as butter and I never encountered a single bug.

I had one bug. After Weatley takes over, and you fall down that shaft, I saved when I got to the bottom and quit, but when I came back to it, and reloaded that save, I couldn't do anything.. I was just standing there, saw the bird fly away with the potato, then it panned down and I could look around and stuff, but couldn't move. I reloaded the previous autosave - which was during the fall down the shaft, and it was fine.

If I'm not an achievement whore, and don't have XBL Gold, is there any reason to get this on 360 instead of PS3? I'm asking honestly. I'm going to pick it up this weekend, and lately I've been getting stuff on PS3 if I have a choice.

If you get it on PS3, you can play COOP with people on PC. I think that's the winner.

You also get a PC download, if I'm not mistaken.

PS3 includes a PC/Mac copy, and has full cross-platform multiplayer, voice chat, and friends lists. It also has Steam Cloud save syncing, even if you don't have PS Plus, and you earn Steam achievements too. So, go with PS3 if that's an option.

Yeah, that's what I've been doing. The missing experiment was a bitch to find, btw.

Yea it's like, hidden stupidly well. I walked right by it on my first play and didn't even bat an eye.

I found a display in the lobby area that has all of these awards for aperture during it's "heyday". One of them is a big newspaper article and the headline says that aperture is located in michigan and that they used old mines to build in. Also all of the awards are for innovations in potato science.

Just finished SP. It was so much more than I ever expected it to be. It was the perfect length and the perfect difficulty. It was all perfect.

I just sat and stared at that final title screen and listened for like 5 minutes.

Perfect.

yeah that didn't last long, order 360 version Sunday when I saw amazon had $20 credit. was a bit pissed when I found out that the that the PS3 version could play with Steam and got a PC/Mac version. telling my friends so most likely wont be able to play co-op with my friends. But is such a good game cant really be mad tho.

Finish it few hours ago, found a few of the secrets the missing ship and the room with him & his wifes portrait and love the new game mechanics the (bounce, speed & portal) gels, light bridge & anti grav beam The little details they included in the game were great like the science fair and the levels look beautiful.

I really, really liked that one since it's a reference to some of the GladOS dialogue in the first game as well.

I keep thinking the same thing. Everything was just... perfect. They nailed it, all of it. Right now, I can't complain about a single thing.

During the climax I shouted THAT DID NOT JUST HAPPEN at my screen. Lunacy indeed.

We've still got science to do. Two more co-op levels.

For extra challenge, try the Still Alive puzzle pack.

Still pumped about coop, I just want to wipe my brain of the SP experience so I can start over.

Hale, you talking about the still alive pack from Portal 1? I tried that. HUGE challenge. I couldn't finish it - got hung up about 3 rooms away from the end.

I just finished going through again to get all the achievements and I think I'm going to do a full run-through with the commentary on this time.

How are you all finding the co-op?

This is for Portal 2? Where does one find this? Portal: The Flash Version mappack for the first game was insanely brutal at times.

I finally got this last night. PS3 version, of course. I'm in Test chamber 12 now, as I ad to give up playing for the night around 2 and I just woke up. All I have to say so far is that I have pretty much not stopped laughing wen I've played it. Everything is bigger and better than I could have hoped for. I'll probably have SP done by tonight. Loving every second of it.

Yeah, it's for Portal 1. The puzzles are brutal. I had to open the game just now to see how far I got, as it's been a while since I last played. I finished all but 5 challenge maps. I may have to go back and see if I can beat those now.

I just remembered, the flash maps pack on PC was called the Still Alive pack on 360. That's why I was confused.
