 Games of the Generation!
Well, we're here again. Post your top... five? I don't know. For the purposes of this thread, let's define the generation as 360, PS3, Wii and PC games released from 2006 through to this Fall.
My top five in no particular order: Portal Mass Effect 2 Assassin's Creed 2 Super Mario Galaxy Uncharted 2
Runners up because I can't compress this list to just five, even though I just made that rule up myself: Batman: Arkham Asylum Burnout Paradise

Wow, going back 7 years to pick 5 games is tough.

 Re: Games of the Generation!
I think it's harder to come up with a list for this generation than any before it. I mean we started with Perfect Dark Zero and now we're playing Halo 4 and The Last of Us. I dare say this generation has seen the biggest jump in maturity from beginning to end. Having said that, here's five games I liked:
1. Portal 2 2. Red Dead Redemption 3. Uncharted 2 and 3 (I CAN'T CHOOSE!!) 4. Metal Gear Solid 4 5. Mass Effect 2
I could go on for days with honorable mentions though.

 Re: Games of the Generation!
No particular order,
Portal 2 Just Cause 2 Oblivion Arkham City Rock Band
Honorable Mentions,
Dishonored Bioshock Fallout 3 Mass Effect Assassin's Creed 2
Ha, these games are all damn good at making the player feel like an utter badass, aren't they? No Tetrises, Zeldas, or Mario Karts in the bunch.

 Re: Games of the Generation!
Top 5: Portal 1 (1 was influential, 2 was better) Mass Effect 2 (1 was influential, 2 was crazy influential, 3 was the best but had ending/choice issues) Super Mario Galaxy 1 (1 was more influential and open-world like SM64, 2 felt more bite-sized yet more fun but which one is "better" is subjective. New SMB feels cheap by comparison but is still fun) Uncharted 2 (curb-stomped the heads of 1 and 3. Dang) Rock Band 2 (best rhythm game yet. 3 didn't improve nearly as much as it should have)
Honorable mentions: Pokémon X/Y (best game since Gold/Silver, if not best dang game in the series) Xenoblade (a JRPG that's current-gen and actually great? What a pleasant treat) Donkey Kong Country Returns (you won't find many side-scrolling games made between DKC2 and DKCR that match the quality and enthusiasm. Super looking forward to the Wii U sequel 'Tropical Freeze') Persona 4 (it may have been released late for the PS2, but it doesn't keep it from influencing so many games in Japan, and the Vita version is the best Shin Megami Tensei title to date by far) Grand Theft Auto V (I've only played an hour of it, and I have a feeling, nay, a very good feeling that it would be in my Top 5 if I beat the game)

 Re: Games of the Generation!
Mass Effect (all three go here, but I felt it would be redundant to just put Mass Effect as my top three. :\ ) Halo Reach (ODST was close to making it on this list because of the emotion it carried.) Portal 2 Skyrim Pokemon Black/White
Being broke sucks, because now there are all these new things out and I want them. :I Some day...

 Re: Games of the Generation!
I guess I could do that. Here's the list, with how many votes each game got. For the times when people mentioned multiple entries in one series, I just gave each entry a vote, because whatever.
Portal 2 - 5 Mass Effect 2 - 4 Uncharted 2 - 4 Zelda: Skyward Sword - 3 Dishonored - 2 Portal - 2 Skyrim - 2 Super Mario Galaxy - 2 Assassin's Creed 2 - 1 Batman: Arkham Asylum - 1 Batman: Arkham City - 1 Bayonetta - 1 Burnout Paradise - 1 Crysis - 1 Darksiders - 1 Deus Ex: Human Revolution - 1 Far Cry 2 - 1 GTA V - 1 Halo Reach - 1 Just Cause 2 - 1 The Last of Us - 1 Mass Effect 1 - 1 Mass Effect 3 - 1 Metal Gear Solid 4 - 1 Mirror's Edge - 1 Oblivion - 1 Pokemon Black/White - 1 Red Dead Redemption - 1 Rock Band - 1 Rock Band 2 - 1 Super Mario Galaxy 2 - 1 Uncharted 3 - 1

 Re: Games of the Generation!
Teehee! That is awesome, hobo. And insightful! It's much easier to take recommendations from this format for games that I haven't yet played. For example, it would appear that I really ought to play Uncharted 2 at some point? Interesting!

The Uncharted series is pretty great. It's like the Tomb Raider you always wanted.

 Re: Games of the Generation!
Mine would probably be (no order):
Arkham Asylum Skyrim Fez Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet Shadow Complex Super Meat Boy Oblivion Terraria Minecraft Braid The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition Monkey Island 2 LeChuck's Revenge: Special Edition Duke Nukem Forever DLC: The Doctor Who Cloned Me (quite a bit better than the lackluster main campaign, actually had more fun with this. Will play again) Shadow Warrior (the reboot) Beat Hazard AudioSurf
Honorable Mentions:
Spelunky (haven't played it yet but everyone worships it, and I've been enjoying a lot of indie games lately so I want to try it out, I grabbed the free version but haven't played it yet) Frozen Synapse (I have a friend who loves this game, I haven't played it enough yet to get into it, but I appreciate its approach)
Turned out to be quite a lot of indie games. Not surprising seeing as most AAA games seem to suck right now.

 Re: Games of the Generation!
I loved it. The visuals weren't terribly interesting but I wouldn't expect much more from a game set in a modern military base, considering how many other games are similar art-wise. I wouldn't say it was overly boring, though. I thought the game was great fun all the way through, though. It's the only XBLA game I've beaten of the few that I've actually bought.
