Post 3DS catchup (not ketchup)
Like a few of you, I've just recently taken the plunge into 3DS land. I got the Zelda bundle, and it's super great, and I've finished that already, so I'm wondering what's next. Also, I bought a couple of 2DSes for the kids for Christmas. They've played with my 3DS, but always turn off the 3D, so they'll be fine. They may be spoiled by the larger screen size but whatever - it was either they both get the cheaper option, or neither get one and no touching my stuff long term. ANYWAY, surely there are plenty of don't-miss games at this point, right? RIGHT?

I bought Mario Kart 7 because that's pretty essential, and I'm loving that. The kids will love the download-play option, but I fully expect they'll both want copies of their own (unless Peach is somehow a playable character for no-cart download play). I got SM 3D Land and M&L Dream Team for the n00b. I'll probably play which ever one he's not playing at any given time. I've got Animal Crossing for chunklette, and I'm probably going to pick up Art Academy, because I think she'll like that. I got Mario Party Island something something since it also has download play and they can share/play together.

Any other games I should consider? eShop games are cool, but I'm already in trouble for not having a Zelda cart I can share. I'm going to see if I can connect at least one of the 2DSes to my nintendo account and see if I can put the Zelda download on it too. I figure I can't, but I have to try.

Also, related, what do I need to bring to MAGFest? I'm assuming the MM suite will be 3DS multiplayer friendly.

You can only have a Nintendo account on one 3DS/2DS and one Wii U at a time right now, so no eShop sharing. It's really stupid, but at least there's an account system there now. Maybe one day they'll take that big leap into 2007.

Fire Emblem: Awakening is really really good if you're into tactical RPGs (and maybe even if you're not, like me). Luigi's Mansion is pretty good. Kid Icarus: Uprising is fantastic if you're willing to get used to some odd controls. Theatrhythm: Final Fantasy is a fun rhythm game. If you like puzzles and visual novels then Professor Layton, Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward (you should play 999 on DS first though) and the new Ace Attorney (eShop only) are all really good.

As for eShop games, there's 3 Picross e games available (from the same devs as Picross DS), Pushmo and Crashmo are essential puzzle games, and almost anything by Level-5 is worth a look too (and on sale right now!).

Also: everyone bring your 3DS to MAGFest, because I want StreetPasses.

How did this game escape my knowledge? It sounds awesome! It doesn't come out in US until February. Definitely adding that to my list!

I'll be bringing my 3DS to Mag, but I honestly don't know of any local multiplayer games other than Mario Kart 7.

Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon
Adventure Time: Hey Ice King! Why'd You Steal Our Garbage (good for everyone!)
Shin Megami Tensei IV if you like awesome RPGs
Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D (because having that game on the go is awesome)
Street Fighter X Tekken is fun
HarmoKnight is a fun rhythm game (eShop)

That's about all I've got that hasn't been suggested previously. But all those previous suggestions? Yeah, do that s**t.

Steam World Dig is a great little game. Probably my favorite indie game on 3DS. Top 3 for sure.

If you have any affection for classic SEGA, their series of 3D Classics is fantastic, especially the arcade games (Super Hang-On, Space Harrier and Galaxy Force II). There's even a series of awesome Iwata Asks-esque interviews available here too. The kind of work that goes into making some of these games 3D is fascinating.

It's pretty damn good. It's one of the best modern Final Fantasies in all but name. A great job and battle system, great music, slick gfx, interesting (and actually useful) online features, great use of the 3D, and it's a lengthy game (i'm 20 hours in and not quite 1/3 into it, but i'm doing all side missions too). My only gripe is some of the voice acting is a little weak at times.

It's well worth your time.

I have thoroughly enjoyed the demo. It is a lot like a proper old school Final Fantasy game. Also the soundtrack is great.

Did anyone recommend New SMB 2? I recommend it. Pretty damn fun.

I managed to get in on the free Pokemon X/Y thing at Club Nintendo. I picked up X. I don't think I like it. The n00b is all about it though.

Got a 2DS, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, And pokey mans why.

Honestly, I love Y, it's pretty much all that 3D I've wanted in a pokemon game. With proper building and all that. Everything in the game is made obvious when it comes to numbers. Breeding is easy, and probably the fastest it's ever been. EV training is 30 minutes per monster instead of days of grinding. It's a little sappy story wise, but I guess I like that stuff.

Monster Hunter is a huge game. Controls took me a few hours to master, but once you get them down it's not so bad. Crafting is daunting, and makes up most of the game. Most, if not all of the enjoyment of this game comes from the coma it puts me in. I could rant about MH for hours, but I'll save you the read.

I'm looking at the new Smash, and possibly the new Zelda.

I just finished A Link Between Worlds last week. It's fantastic - my favorite Zelda since Wind Waker for sure.

Link Between Worlds made me love my 3DS again last fall. Bravely Default keeps the passion alive.
