Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
Hey guys, I just picked up the Pathfinder starter box and am quite new to the tabletop gaming scene, but I would LOVE to get a game going with people from here. I will look into other options than Skype (since group calls cost moneys) but I really think that the sense of humour around here could make for a wonderful game. Please respond if you have any interest in an online rpg funtime experience.

I've thought of suggesting this, but with Shadowrun. I'm a Tabletop veteran, so I'd be down for it, but it'll be a couple more months before I live somewhere with Internet.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
OH SHI-
I'd be ok with this. I'm new to D&D style role playing and am going to play in a skype game with my brother here in a few weeks. There are software packages that are built for online role playing. I don't remember what my brother's using, I'll ask him. Not sure if it's free but it might be a good option.
I would love to get into a campaign with some MMers. I don't have an infinite amount of free time so I can't exactly run some 12 hour dungeon raids, but I'd be down for some gaming.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
I've never GM-ed before so this will be a new experience for all. I already have quite a few community made character sheets and "pre-mades" in PDF/Office formats to work with. I've bookmarked a whole shitloat of resources as well like random dungeon generators, tilesets, art assets, etc...

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
This is Roll20, and it looks like the perfect tool to use for this sort of game setup. I know that we are all busy living our lives and being procutive members of society, but I really feel like this tool will facilitate quick pickup sessions when we find the time.

So now that the kickstarter's over and the Roll20 beta has started, does anyone want to try it out?

I'd join, but I'm already running a DnD 4.0 campaign. Sounds like it would be rad though.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
Yeah, but everyone playing doesn't have to be in the beta. Only the GM does. I'm a role playing noob so I don't really want to GM the thing, but we could probably arrange something where someone with experience got access to the beta.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
I didn't throw in coinage so I'm not in the beta, but my brother DMs a lot of D&D stuff so he ran me through a session. It worked pretty well! We couldn't get the video chat working, but I don't know if that was a problem on his end or my end. Worst case we can all just do a skype group call.
I have never DM'd in my life and have only played in bout 30 hours worth of campaign. I think Bry said he was willing to run a campaign for us.

I put in at the tier where I get it a few weeks prior to release, but don't have access to the beta.

This all sounds pretty awesome, but the timezone factor will hurt my participation.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
My brother is a DM and has run me through a couple of 2 hour sessions. The system he uses is and it's very old school D&D style, and a lot of fun.
The tool itself still seems a little buggy (from what he's told me). Simple stuff like moving the player characters from scene to scene is a pain. But from a players POV it's very close to the table-top experience. The video chat for us was a little laggy so you'd get that awkward 2 seconds of talking over each other, then 2 seconds of silence, then 2 seconds of talking again.
I understand it's a beta, and that it's meant for hundreds of different RPG systems, but I would love to see a lot of features added that just aren't there yet, like: Adding shortcut buttons for commonly used dice rolls. So I could bookmark /roll 2d10+1 and call it "2 handed sword damage" or something. Automatic fog of war/lighting simulation, like if there is a mob on the map 6 squares away and it's too dark to see it, it should disappear for the players (or automatically blacken the map outside all the players' sight radii. I know it seems silly but it's just kind of weird to be playing a game on the computer and having the DM go "oh wait, my bad, you shouldn't have seen that thing." Seems like it'd be easy to automate.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
I made my beta account and I am going to begin putting together the pre-gen campaign from the Pathfinder Beginner Box called "Black Fang's Dungeon." It is designed for new players and new GMs so that should make things a bit more easy, although initially we may move kinda slow while we figure things out. My main question for you guys is would you like to make your own characters or use one of the pre-gen characters for speed and viability? The pre-gens are fighter, wizard, rogue, and cleric.

Here are the PDFs for the pre-gens:
For those who want to roll their own here are some resources:
It seems that you actually need to download the files from the link at the top, the preview loses some of the text on the pre-gen sheets.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
It will take me some time to put everything in place/learn roll20 from the GM side. Just gives me more time to choose the right tokens and music. No worries!
I can work something out with an even smaller campaign which is the super intro one that you can do alone. I ran it and it is much like a "choose your own adventure" book. That can be a nice icebreaker for individuals, plus I can draw an awesome map in PAINT yeeeeaaaahhh.

Re: Proposed Idea: MM Skype Pathfinder/D20 game
I struggled with the GM interface for a bit, then I read the help pages and got a much better idea. The campaign is laid out, just gotta read over it a few times so I have a feel for what my beasties can do.

I signed up on the site, under Jaster Mereel. I'm also out of town right now, but when I have time I'll try and brush up on the rules and roll a char and stuff. I only played dnd once, a while ago... but this would be fun
