Re: chunkstyle "solo" album YES MAYHEM
chunk wasn't joking about how "ultra rare limited edition" these discs are. They look like they were produced with a burned CD with a Staples-bought white inkjet label kit. Then distributed in white cardboard sleeves with an Avery label on them.

Re: chunkstyle "solo" album YES MAYHEM
The CDs themselves were actually professionally duplicated and printed. The cases themselves were makeshift as f**k.
Ok, by "professionally duplicated" I mean I used the duplicator here at work that has a printer built in. Actually, my boss did it for me because I had to leave work early that day to take my wife to the doctor. So, "professionally" is an absolutely appropriate term in this context.
DIY OR DIE
My plan for the CD cases was to make a sweet-ass stencil and spray paint them and then maybe let the kids go Jackson Pollock on them, but I got really really sick for about two weeks prior to PAX and then my wife got sick (see above about taking her to the doctor). That wrecked all my plans - it was the sickest I've ever been. That's a "what's on your mind" post I've been mulling over. The label was supposed to go on the back - not be the main event.
The last song was finished recording on Sunday 8/29, mixed on Monday 8/30, and mastered on Tuesday 8/31. I'd already set up the bandcamp so I just had to upload the last song, throw together some sort of graphic for that (which turned out pretty well, I think, all things considered), post about it here, then I had to duplicate those CDs on Wednesday before I left for PAX on Thursday. It took longer than I thought, so my boss actually hid the finished spindle outside our building and I picked it up on the way to the airport Thursday morning. And yes, I misspelled my name and norg's name. I didn't discover that until I got back from PAX. I actually laid out the labels in Photoshop on Grant's laptop at our merch booth at PAX and then printed them in the kinkos in the lobby of the convention center. I used a pdf template for those labels, and it had a transparent background. The name text was light gray on the screen, and I'm honestly surprised I didn't mess up a lot more. But dammit all, I met my goal of having the album done by PAX.
Ok, so my original goal was PAX '09, but still, I got it done by *A* PAX.
So yes, I spent a couple of frantic hours putting together those CD cases, and a year and a half putting together the music. You see where my priorities lie.

You know, it's weird, I can't ever remember anybody ever saying to wear your Sunday best. Like not once in my life. But at a wedding rehearsal last week the coordinator guy said it and it immediately made me think of Yes, Mayhem.

This morning, in the car, the n00b kept asking to hear "Edward." I said, "I don't know what that is, buddy, can you sing it?"
"you came by this morning, EDWARD scaring the children..."

He can't read the liner notes yet, give him a break already. And by "liner" I mean that I posted on the website.

Re: chunkstyle "solo" album YES MAYHEM
Been listening to Yes, Mayhem a lot (through speakers of dubious quality), and just heard Naked Fight through nice headphones. Whole new level of awesome, here comes another listen through.

I guess this is at a point where I actually feel comfortable talking about it.

Just so you know, Revan, what you have amounts to demos for the next TWO albums. I'm going to try for shorter releases more frequently.
That's what she said?

Re: chunkstyle "solo" album YES MAYHEM
I'm going to leave this here: http://chunkstyle.net/mayhem2/preview/a ... review.mp3I'll be posting this to my blog and to facebook soon, but I thought I'd drop it here first. This isn't the final master - I did some quick mastering for loudness, but that's it. This is the same track I posted with drum and bass before, but now it's got all its parts including my first ever (public) recording of my upright (played arco). That's buried in the mix, but when I A/B it, I can tell it's there. I added that at the last minute because I felt like the overall sound was lacking in the low end, even though I'm droning an open A almost the whole song. Nothing is dronier than a bowed bass except maybe a didgeridoo, and I don't have one of those. Grant killed this one. Then James came along and did his thing and now I can't stop listening to this. Double kill. TRIVIA: I recorded part of this while Hobo was at my house, setting up his new iPad 2. If you listen closely, you can probably hear him cursing iTunes. Personnel: James: vocals Grant: guitars Kevin: drums me: PLAY ALL THE BASS Before I broke out my upright, I played a track on my new* fretless, but I ended up scrapping that, so almost all of my basses are covered (ho ho! sorry). There is one track on the album which will feature (HEAVILY) my fretless, and I'm pretty proud of it. *newly defretted, epoxied, and sanded. It's ok. Enjoy!

So good, so good. Tons of awesome harmony and melody work here. If I was a music teacher I'd definitely pull some choice examples.

I'm super excited about this guys. I am going to try really hard not to f**k it up in the mixing phase, in which I am currently hip deep.
