 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
So I got EZdrummer in the mail yesterday and to say the least. It's great for what it is. My drum software sucked so I needed some bad. I just added drums to a Nightmare on Elm Street track I'm working on and no I didn't use their preset grooves. Felt to much like cheating. It's actually pretty great sounding if you know what you're doing. I give it a B+.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
Just got a Peavey PV6 mixer and some Studiophile AV-30 monitors. They're my birthday presents from my mom, dad, and brother, so I won't be able to use them till the 17th (my birthday), but I'm excited to be able to do fun stuff.
I really want to try using sources of input, so like sm57 up close on the amp, condenser like 3-4 feet away, and direct out from the amp. Should color the tone of the guitar in an interesting way.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
So I'm looking for some equipment to record drums with. Like a mixer or interface and I want to have separate tracks on my computer for each mic. Does anybody have any suggestions or helpful tips? I'm looking at these two right now: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=485375http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... duct_sim_A

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
At a quick glance, neither of those are going to do what you want - separate the individual tracks onto your computer. The usb seems to be stereo in/out which means two mixed channels into your computer. It looks like there are separate track out, but you'd still need an interface to get them into your computer. This is what I use: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=242036. My friend James has one of these: http://pro-audio.musiciansfriend.com/pr ... sku=502784I have firewire, so I use that. James doesn't, or doesn't trust it, so he uses the tascam with usb. I don't use a mixer in between, I just plug the mics straight into the firepod. If there's something I overlooked, then sorry.

I would give you a glowing recommendation, but I'd likely jinx myself and everything would go to s**t.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
The only problem is that it's analog, so you still need a AD converter to get the tracks into your computer. I don't know how many mic's are typically used with a drum kit, but i'm sure you could get away with an 8-input interface.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
I haven't personally used it, but I had a lot of hardware problems with a Lexicon Omega, but I've heard from a friend who has this one that it's much better. Also I guess presonus does some good stuff. Are you Mac or PC?

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
I've been looking around at some digital audio amps. I've got my eye on the PreSonus Firestudio. It's an 8-channel board with midi input and output for a full 5.1 setup. More there ---> http://www.presonus.com/products/Detail ... roductId=5I'm borrowing my friend's Firebox and I've really liked it. It's easy to operate. My friend had a Motu 8pre that I had a chance to use. I'm thinking of that and then getting a full mic set for my drums.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
I've got a Firepod, which is similar. I love it. It has midi in/out, but I don't use midi, I just have 7 drum mics and a line out from my bass amp going at once.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
I can get a pretty sweet deal from my place of employment. Probably get some drum mics a bit later on. http://www.sendspace.com/file/kva3fbI recorded the drums with two mics. I used an Apex 180 overhead and a 435 in front of the drums about 2 feet from the kick drum. And yes, it's the Ben Harper version of the song that was without drums. Sounded sweet with two channels. Close mics will fill out the sound even more.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
I was hoping to get a firepod by christmas buuut....yeah school tuition and all happened. So I just ordered(like literally an hour ago) a line 6 ux1. I'm hoping the sound is every bit as good as people say it is.

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
I decided to take my focus off of recording for 2011, and instead focus on getting my skills up to snuff. Also, I just got a drum kit, so I'm gonna be learning how to play too!

 Re: Home Recording F.A.Q.
So I got some new recording goodies over the holidays. I did get the line 6 ux1 and I got a Shure sm57 mic. Tried out the amp models on the pod farm and wasn't to impressed with their distortion. I got some good lead tones but any power chords or palm muting I do sounds muddy and too distorted. Overall though I'm happy with it!
