I've always been curious about this potato wine I hear about called Akkavit, from what I hear it's amazing. Anyone ever try it?

really late, but I'll have a go.

i definitely avoid most of crappy american stuff but have a weird liking for Old Style. I know, I know. It's freakin Old Style, right? Maybe it's because I'm from Chicago or maybe it's because my dad drank it his whole life. Hmm, or maybe even it's because as a child, in the summer I wasn't allowed inside the house by myself and if I was thirsty my options were the hose, the pool, or saying to my Dad, "dad, I'm thristy." To which he would reply by holding out his can of Old Style for me to take a sip. ....that last one might be the one. On a related note, the dog would knock over my Dad's Old Style cans and lap them up. Drunk dogs are funny.

now? I like Guiness, pretty much any stout really. A Black & Tan is damn tasty too. Hmm.. Newcastle, several types of Sam Adams, Amstel, Bass, Lienenkugel's. For some reason, if I'm in a bar that has Red Stripe, I'm oddly compelled to have at least one.

i'll drink pretty much anything once.

Looking over the drinks on the menu at this grille I was at tonight, one beer stuck out, Newcastle Brown Ale. I was like hmm I definitely heard about this on MM somewhere. Had it, excellent. It's something I haven't been able to find at any distributors around here at all.

I've got one in the fridge right now. I've got that student who owns a big distribution company and hooks me up with various beers. I'll give it a shot and see what I think.

the double meaning of the word "shot" made that post great.

Newcastle is my brew of choice. actually. Despite the rather high price, I find it completely worthwhile to spend 8 bucks for 6 dark, tasty, and oh so sexy bottles of the good stuff. :o

New Castle is indeed good stuff. I haven't had it in a while but you've now inspired me to pick up a 6 pack of it.

Ok. So I've gone to two beer festivals in the last 3 months, and here's the deal.

Delirium Tremens.

HOLEEE s**t.

It is the tastiest beer I've ever had. Fruity, smooth, dry....OH GOD. Plus, it has an 11% alcohol content. YUM.

That, my fellow boardies, is so good you'd punch a baby in front of his momma. I haven't had any of it for well over a month, but I can't get the desire out of my system. It's simply not yet available in North Carolina. I've tried all sorts of other high gravity Bavarian brews, and I'm freaking out because NOTHING COMES CLOSE. The closest thing (and it's alcohol content is not even over 6%) is Hoegaarden, and it's just a regular run-of-the-mill white beer. God save me.

Wow I can't believe I missed a thread about beer.

Heineken for me. Tastes great, and heavy enough that you don't need more than two or three in my case to get drunk.

My guilty pleasures (aka liquor) are Jack and Bacardi. Jack gets me drunk at the drop of a hat. :|

Haven't decided yet which I want more: my 5c deposit per bottle, or a rocketwidget collection (which means breaking all the bottles, somehow...).

You can use pretty much any non-flimsy object braced against the edge of the cap. Counter- & table-tops, window sills, and curtain rods were popular ones where I went to school. Could also use the handle on your fridge. Or just get one of these handy little doodads for your keychain:

^Hah, that's what I've been using. Little red one that says UnitedHealthCare, ironically enough.

Of course there's no need to have it on your keys...anywhere you go they open it for you. I guess it'd come in handy when going to someone's house, but the people I know do the can thing.

I don't even think there's a name for it. O_o

So, on topic, Everclear has apparently been banned from Canada (along with some other drink), which pretty much screwed our plans last night to get drunk off of, well, Everclear. I'm not sure why it was banned, but that sucks. I'm also not even sure if i've ever tasted the stuff before, but I do know it's a really strong drink, so it's usually mixed. Anyway, i don't actually have a drink of choice (i usually drink socially), but I did try some orange Schnopps (not sure what drink it is) several weeks ago that tastes quite good. I also just had a tasty raspberry vodka cooler earlier.

ugh, i can not touch everclear.

For money in college, i caught this cushy job as a test subject in the psych department as a test subject for stuff. one of the studies was the effect of certain drugs on alcohol consumption. We'd be forced to drink 5 glasses of purple kool aid in an hour. There were 5 sessions and 3 of the sessions, the cups were 50% everclear, 50% purple kool aid.

that was the nastiest combo of alcohol and anything. and they made us get hammered off it. At the end of the study they asked what we thought of the whole thing and i told them if they really wanted to test the effect of the drug, they could have used alcohol that didn't already taste like s**t.

and so now i can not drink everclear. or purple kool aid

I once saw a 15 year old girl turn up a bottle of everclear like it was bottled water. Never have I been so afraid of a person half my size.

Then you've never seen my sister in law. She drinks wine, whysky, vodka, and everything with alchool like water.

Considering it's either 151 proof or 190 proof.... I'd be afraid of her too. Did she then proceed to the nearest emergency room?
