Post F**k me sideways.
So tonight I'm locking up at work. I throw my bass in the back hatch of my car, and run back in to grab my s**t, stopping for a couple seconds to chat with my co-workers. I run back out the door to my car, and my f**king bass is gone. In less than five minutes someone saw me throw the bass in, ran up to the car, tested all the doors and found the back-right one to be open (that f**king lock sticks sometimes), snatched it and ran.

I just found out last week that I owe $2,100 for 2k5 taxes. I still owe about $900 on an installment plan for 2k4 that I'm not going to make in time for April 15th. Suffice to say that I can't afford a new bass any time soon.

Life sucks right now.

My condolences. I realize that instrument is as close to your bread and butter as anything. Was it insured? Is that something that can be insured in the future?

No, it's impossible for me to get insurance on my musical gear. it would cost as much as replacing it every year. No, my car insurance will not cover it, nor will my work's. Hence the "up s**t creek" rhetoric.

Crap man. I'd be all downtown around the crap apartments, listening for someone on the second floor, blasting that s**t. That would be just the type of asshole to nab it.

I hope you can get through this all right man. See, if that was me I'd be so entirely super-pissed...the reason why I always take so much care to keep my property secure is not so much for me or the property, but for the safety of whoever the hell decided to f**k with me. Don't need jail time. I probably just have issues. Dunno.

But...you lost your DS almost the exact same way though. It really sucks this happened and I'm sorry, but the motto I always live by is this: the area around oneself and one's s**t is one's enemy at all times. You gotta hate the world for what it's become, but we still have to live in it.

How about, armed with the serial number of your bass (which I hope you have) and a photo of yourself with it around your body, you visit pawn shops all about town and when you find it (which is more likely than one would usually guess), you'll be able to show your scrap of paper and photo to the broker and if that doesn't earn you your baby back (perhaps because the thief scratched the number off), get the police involved. I used to be a pawnbroker myself, and it's in the best interests of the shop to cooperate. Give it a shot.

If you all learn anything from the s**t I'm going through, it's to go get the serial numbers of all your musical equipment and f**kin' write it down.

This one time my Dad got set up at work, this dude stole a highly expensive machine out of my Dads truck, and it just so happened that my Dad stopped by this certain someones house the next day to drop off his pay, and in clear sight, the machine was in the dudes garrage,my Dad beat the crap out of him...but thats beside the point, you should check your workmates out for justice.

I wouldn't think anyone he works with would do that.

But yeah, the pawn shops are a possibility. I suppose it just depends on what sort of town it is.

Maybe I should move to Termina so that when something gets stolen from me, I know it was the damn bird then I can go buy it off the itchy bastard that night for 10 f**king rupees. Yessir.

Seriously though, even if you don't have 'em, hit up both the police and pawn shops. A friend managed to get a stolen synth back that way, and the pawn shop was in a different town. Give 'em pics.
I'd like to say there is hope, because that sucks.

Well, I immediately called the cops. The guy came out and took my report, but I don't have a serial number anywhere. I've had the thing for four years and have moved four times.

If there's an upswing, I was planning to get a new one eventually anyway. it's just that the only way I could have afforded that was to sell the current one for it.

wow, bro. that blows. i'm very sorry to hear that. my only advice was gonna be the pawn shop thing that grandy already talked about.

if it were me i'd also have T and our friend Ed come into town and we would go door to door asking people if they know anything.

seriously, that's s**t.

That really sucks, *hugs Kris* there are some pens that you can get that only show up in UV rays. You could always get one and write on all of your other belongings. I know it may not seem like much help, but i have done it with my bike now if anyone steals it i can shine a UV ray on it and BAM theres my name all over it.

I suggest we track down and kill every junk in your town and find out what happened to your bass after that.

KRIS man, I'm so sorry!

If you have pics of you with the bass and you find it at a local pawn shop, I suppose there's still nothing they can do can they?

So sorry, kris. besides Pawn shops, make sure you run by all the music shops as well. The thief would definately get a better price at a music shop than a pawn shop, I would think. The local Daddy's Junky Music is like a drive thru restaurant of used instruments. Hell, you might even see it up on the wall.

Sorry to hear about that Kris. An all around crappy situation. Makes me glad I have nothing anyone would want to steal.

Dang it! I always had a fear of that happening, and it makes me sad when I find out when it happens to other people. Shoot, that must stink.

Blaaaaargh! Sorry to hear about your loss. That is the ultimate suckage. I can only imagine your frustration. I had my entire CD collection stolen from my car while I was at work, but I don't think that adds up to having an instrument stolen. Still though, insurance bites the big one, because I got absolutely no compensation whatsoever with the exception of the damage done to my car door, so yeah, maybe I do know how you feel right now. Again, sorry to hear about your troubles.

That's pretty shitty man. I've had stuff stolen from me before and it's definatly not a good feeling. The pawn shop stuff sounds like a good idea to me. I wouldn't put too much faith in that police report. I'm still waiting for them to find the jerk who stole my N64.
