Post Friends of Adam "djdigdugger" Dugger
Many of you know djdigdugger from his years of contributing to our little forum. Many of you also know that he fought and beat leukemia a few years ago, and that it returned recently.

It is with deepest regret that I must inform you that Adam Dugger passed away this morning.

Theirs is a heart-wrenching tale of great faith, love and superhuman bravery. It inspired me. It may inspire you.
Kelly Dugger wrote:
I know that everyone was praying for a miracle, but Adam and I feel that this experience has helped so many people grow that we did get a miracle...

His life touched and inspired so many, even those of us who barely knew him. I had the privilege of meeting Adam and Kelly once. They were gentle and kind and full of love.

I never really knew Adam Dugger, but I will never forget him.

If you would like to give on his behalf, here are two organizations Adam supported:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society
and
The National Marrow Donor Program

HOLY s**t. Horrible news. :( We were supposed to hang and play Mario Kart when he felt better. Dude was only one state away and I never got to see him in person.

I'm kind of at a loss for words right now.

Seriously, this is really super sad. Dugger was the man, he was always friendly and insightful. I am going to miss his presence here a whole lot. I may not be a religious man, but I certainly hope that he is in a better place now. Love and sadness, love and sadness.

I just read this on Facebook. Adam was a great guy. I saw Mastodon and BTBAM with him and his wife a few years back. He was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. So long Adam...

Wow. Godspeed, Adam. I think the best thing you can hope for after your passing is to leave the world a better place than you found it. Hearing from everyone here and Kelly's remarks on the CaringBridge site, it's seems Adam was able to do just that. My heart goes out to Kelly and the rest of the Dugger family.

Like many, came running here after I read the Facebook post. I always enjoyed reading Dug's posts and opinions - he was an intelligent, even-handed, caring guy. This forum seems like the best place to pay him homage. Godspeed, Adam.

Read this on Twitter yesterday. Terrible f**king news. I was always hoping he'd get to be, one of the people I met in person. I always enjoyed talking to him. Rest in peace, dugger. You will be missed, especially around these boards.

Anyone interested in pitching in for some kind of "Metroid Metal" donation to Leukemia cure research? He's been a part of these boards for a long, long time. I think if enough of us get together we can make some kind of gesture.

I agree completely. We should discuss it with the Overlord when he returns from PAX.

I will certainly kick into this group fund. Alone we are useful, but together we are capable of supreme donation power!

Sounds good. f**k, if we* can buy Kris a bass, we can help kick Leukemia's butt!

*I didn't donate to Kris' bass fund. Don't hate me.

Post Re: Friends of Adam "djdigdugger" Dugger
Death has always been a known and expected certainty. Yet in spite of this, I'm still never really sure about what to say.

All I can think to do right now is to reflect on how happy I thought Adam was and how much he seemed to love losing at Mario Kart DS and Tetris DS. I never met him, but I could tell when we used AIM or in-game chat that that guy was one of those people who understood the value of positivity even in the face of defeat. We'd play these games and I'd regularly crush, smash, and obliterate him. Any of the rest of you who ever played with him knows that he just wasn't that good. That's not said to be insulting and I'd wager he'd agree. Naturally, when I'd win I'd feel great. But when I'd lose, I'd sit around grumbling about how badly I did. Adam, meanwhile, was happy the entire time so, in the end, who was the real winner? Looking back, "Beard" didn't play for the thrill of winning like me, but for the pure comfort and joy of connecting to a friend that these games provided. He just liked hanging out and no match was ever a waste of his time since he used every one as an opportunity to crack wise, laugh, and let me know that he simply liked me.

Throughout his chemo and other health challenges, I don't recall a time on these boards where he ever asked any of us to cheer him up. He'd post more or less like he always did and kept that indomitable spirit high. I know he was in pain and his updates were a roller coaster of highs and lows, but he wouldn't let these things ruin the time he was having.

I learned today that I'll never get to play Mario Kart with him again, but I also learned that he was teaching me something back when we did. I hope that someday, when it's time for me to go, I'll have what it takes to follow his example and remain just as positive as he was, come what may. Goodbye, dj, and thanks for the games.

Good post Grand.

I didnt see this because of PAX but I'm glad that I'm able to process this without interruption. Godspeed Dugger, I don't think this loss can be understated

I'm going to donate to LLS in Adam's honor by the end of this week. http://www.lls.org/#/waystohelp/donate/donateonline/ If you want to do a group/combined donation, PM me and we can work out details. Otherwise, feel free to donate on your own!

Anyone have an address where the tribute cards should be sent? (PM me if you do)

Dug up my pictures from the Duggers' visit to Asheville in September of 2008. After an evening of drinking, we headed to Stoney Knob Cafe for some breakfast. Not pictured but present: Travis (T), Christi, Evan, Ethan (Prophet) and, of course, me.

Grant's drinking a mimosa, because he knows what's up. Kelly Dugger beside him, and a bit of Adam in the mirror.

There he is.

A huge pic for great justice of my first meeting with Adam, along with a very young and cute Goatlette.

A few short months later we'd share Dethklok/Mastodon together and a couple months after that BTBAM. Good stuff. I'll miss him a lot.

I really think if any of us had to pass away, it should have been Grant's beard ;)

I'm glad I got to have breakfast with him. I'm sad I won't get to again. And that's kind of what life is, I guess...

Post Re: Friends of Adam "djdigdugger" Dugger
Back in '05, Adam and I were pretty close. We chatted up on AIM all the time; music talk, games, the usual geek fodder. Like Grand, I spent a lot of time glued to my DS with that Mario Kart. If I remember correctly, we (all 3 of us), more often than not, played together. We'd make up silly rules like "NO BOOSTING", "HEAVY CHARACTERS/HEAVY CART ONLY", and "NO SLIDING". And sometimes we'd combine them all together. On Rainbow Road. Many lol's were had.

Adam introduced me to The Locust as "I have no clue as to why anybody likes this band". They're in my top 5 faves now. He was always rocking out to sweet tunes while at work. Occasionally, I would get an IM saying "The intro to Blindfolds Aside" and I knew exactly what he was talking about. He loved to tell me how much he liked Bela Fleck and The Flecktones and how much fun it was to play BTBAM on the guitar. He found it really amusing when I told him that the chorus to Roboturner was the singer yelling "BALTIMORE!". I was so off.

I wish we could have done more when he came to visit. It was very brief. He always talked about visiting again in the following months after visiting; schedule it around a show. That would have been sweet. I think he would have loved going to MAG.

I'll never forget Adam. I will miss him tons.

I saw this on twitter and responded, but haven't been on the boards at all because of busy. Essentially, even though I didn't really know him, I'm still very sad that this happened. I wish I had known him, he sounds like a good person. RIP.
