I thought Stem was in the process of making a sticky thread like this, looks like you beat him to the punch - partially.

Hmmmm, DOD. Taking guitar lessons atm so I can actually play an instrument besides Lady Cello. That and music Theory too. Its like, I see all these guys, like Goat and Stemage, Virt and House (the tip of the iceberg on a list of grates) and I really have always wanted to make a song(s) similar and as ass-kicking as theirs.

Definately not easy, as unfortunately, Art, not music, is my forte. But thats what these classes are for. Hehe, still a ways off before I can starting doing anything.

On a different note... Shred contest this month! Double Dragon baby! (I hope Norrin Rad makes another entrance this time around - he does DD best!)

I wish I could shred :(

Well, if Stemage wants to make his own or whatever, he's welcome to delete this one.

That's what I thought when I read that, too. He means drawing, I'm guessing.

I've always wanted to contribute but I never could figure out the accoustic dealie I've got sitting in the corner. You think I could win with a trumpet version of the Mega Man 3 theme?

september and october are a double whammy.

the free month has been extended to the end of october for submissions.

at the end of september, entries for the "Shred Compo" are due. this is a different contest where they actually pick the song that you are going to remix, then you bring it. so to speak. the goal is to finally let your inner wankery out and show everyone just how good you are at ripping up the notes on the guitar (or your choice of instrument).

the song in this case is from the double dragon 3 NSF soundtrack, song number 14. artists in this contest will be judged both by popular vote, as well as a selected panel of judges.

i'm definitely looking forward to hearing what folks are able to bring out for this one. (: i can't shred to save my soul so i'll be sitting on the sidelines enjoying.

Is house allowed to submit? Cause he'll win for sure if he goes for it...

I can't shred for s**t. I wish I could though. I've always gone for accuracy, and I'm glad, but I'd love to freak out every once in a while.

I'm the opposite. I can wow people with my speed...you know...the non-musical types. But a seasoned guitar player would immediately know how inadequate my playing actually is because of that lack of accuracy. Being able to master both is what separates the stars from the....er...f**k it. You're a star Grant. f**k speed.

:P

he definitely has it. his brother ashane is also up there in terms of capability to shred notes like nobody's business.

there are a couple of guys out there who can rip it to pieces. of course, if virt enters this thing then it could very well be, again like last year, an extremely close contest.

I'm not too overly familar with Ashane's works, but if Cessation of Mammon is any indication, he really needs to work on his transition speed (smoothness from one note to the next). His soloing ability is pretty impressive, but it's also rather choppy when compared to the likes of his bro.

Ha, you heard that? You're welcome, I guess. :D

I'm with you on the speed thing, and I really love that your music isn't speed/wankery. I've just recently figured out that I shouldn't try to play fast anymore because I'm better suited to slower or medium paced rock. That's not going to stop me from sucking at this DD3 thing though.

For the Shread contest, did Norrin Ran already do a remix, with part of it (Triple Dragon Variety Extravaganza) involved this month's shread contest's selected song?

Never played the game so I can't tell at all; I just know that its a kickass piece. Just curious is all.

From what I've heard several of his tunes (all excellent) and it seems like Double Dragon is really his forte, despite that I haven't heard any new mixes of his on Vgmix in awhile. Has he done anything Brett's Requiem?

Either way, it'd be great to hear him turn up at the contest. I just love his tone, that on top of the fact that Norrin can really shread like nobody's bussiness. Also, it wouldn't feel completely like a Double Dragon tribute without him :P

He's also four years younger than Alex. Maybe three.

Yeah, how long has house been playing his axe, seven, nine years now?

Definately alot of experience. Still, Ashanes pretty damn good for a seventeen year old.

Whee, a sticky.

Apparently the site not updating is something on my end, I think I need a new FTP client. So, at least it is managable, and thanks for letting people know the mirrors.

Trumpet = cool. Someone already did a trumpet/trombone/scat song for Mario month. With any luck the site will be updated very soon.

For the two month, free month, ending in October, I seriously think that someone should do a remix from Darius Twin. It was a total dissapointment not seeing it in the scrolling shooters month, considering how good the game's music is. Total remixmaterial, but I never see it remixed - ever.

I remember that Dual Storm by BrainCells and CarboHydroM was most kickass. Personally, if they teamed up a second time to do something like this, it'd be incredible. Needless to say, actually, since whatever they would do would rule despite.

Like chocolate and milk, those two mix well together.

Just a thought: Level A, Whale Boss Theme, G&I Levels, or the Final Stage would all be great choices... in case anyone felt like giving it a try :)
