Joystiq just posted an article with this. It's most definitely badass.

I was never a fan of Genesis sound.
There, I said it.
It's still interesting, as are other converted soundtracks I've heard.
But the original is superior by far.

I like the Genesis sound a lot and it's always mysteriously far more nostalgic sounding than other stuff for me, but typically I still favor NES/SNES music. I can definitely say the sound is very much more hit or miss than NES/SNES games though, there's no real middle ground for me with Genesis soundtracks. The stuff either works for me, or it's just straight up ass.

The Genesis needed more Tim Follin, just wtf.
(not to hijack the thread, but this guy was ridiculous. Solstice (NES), Treasure Master (NES), etc. I can't help but laugh at how insane this stuff is).

Longtime friend of mine, that Gecko, haha.
I have been part of OCR for years, and its amazing what GY has been able to pull off.
Even with limited sounds, the Gen Synth is a staple in vgm history period.

I love Mega Drive sound (and Master System too) since I grew up playing almost nothing else. GY's stuff is awesome, I was listening to a bunch over the weekend. I hope he does more Sonic 4 tracks.

Xeogred: f**k yeah Lava Reef! In fact (with the exception of Carnival Night) the S3&K soundtrack was all great.

Best S3&K tracks are Flying Battery 1/2, Doomsday, and Death Egg.

This is really extraordinary. I have long thought the versatile SNES sound was generally smooth and atmospheric with great uses of sampling and beautiful layering throughout its history, but nothing sounds like the Genesis. It's got a real kick to it that I appreciate. Deep, plucky, and idiosyncratic, the music of Genesis games feel more alive to my ear than in most other games on comparable consoles. I can hear the machine working to generate all these weird noises and I know it's part of a unique entertainment experience. Handled properly, it's enough to convince me that I'm into something otherworldly and purely electronic. It doesn't pretend to be anything but the bizarre, brazen little computer that it is. Call me crazy, but a part of me will always believe that that's how video games are supposed to sound.

Damn... that sounds great.

edit: I also scanned the blog that was on for a bit... the dude freaking overclocked a sega megadrive from 50 to 60hz. By soldering and s**t, I guess. Wow.
