Post Metroid - Kraid's Theme on Acoustic (Flamenco) Guitar
Finally, I got to record it:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OIFbwNNc ... ideo_title

Yes, it's still far from perfect and not up to speed, but I don't care (even though I do mention that it's a demo, implying a better version will come...) Anyway, I still prefer my first recording, even if it's a lot slower. There's a lot more feeling to it and the recording is a gazillion times better (I used the same recorder, though). Original Take:

Comments or criticism, all are welcome.

Manuel

OLD:
So, I bought a new voice recorder: the Olympus LS-10.
I thought of making a recording of myself with it. To my surprise my hammer-ons and pull-offs are really a lot better than I expected, my complete sound is actually pretty decent. I should check my singing voice with this thing too, I think, as everyone but me thinks I can sing fairly well (I always think it can be better).

But to the piece: Kraid's Theme:

http://manolito.mystiq.googlepages.com/ ... id_Raw.mp3

Pretty raw recording in the performing sense, about the second take I believe, but I already played for over 5 hours, so I thought of taking a rest. It's also quite slow, but it actually doesn't sound so bad, does it?. It's only me by the way, solo guitar.

What do you think?

EDIT: Maybe I shouldn't end with a Picardian third, oh well. And the natural harmonic (b) was not so well played.

I will make a transcription, but I'm not sure if I include a tab. Really not trying to be an elitist or something, but understanding of songs is a lot better if you try to read the music. And I understand that some don't want to understand it, just play it, yes, okay. Well, maybe I include the tab after all then.

Very well done, especially for a solo guitar.

I liked it alot. I've learned a couple of versions of Kraid (Stem's MM version is the best so far) but I really liked this as an acoustic version. And since I'm constantly surrounded by the classical nylon-stringed guitars at my school's music room, learning this would be awesome.

The sound quality isn't bad, but it does sound like you need to practice the piece some more. It would sound more pleasing at a brisker tempo, I think.

Excellent counterpoint! Moar nylon in video game music.

The third part had to be altered, as you can't play a accompanied three octaves on guitar, as the original :P, so now it has a pedal bass (E).

Here you go.

Well done, but it sounds like you didn't quite "capture" the essence of the track. I'm not saying it's bad at all, simply that you sounded a little off-key on a few notes. But I can't read sheet music or play a guitar skillfully, so for all I know, I'm full of crap.

I do enjoy the slow, atmospheric feel to it, though. Practice makes perfect, keep at it.

I can't be off-key, because every note should be correct. I did mute some notes, because I didn't stop the frets enough with my fingertips and my guitar could've been out of tune (making it sound off-key), but I believe it wasn't.

I did play the last part with a chord MM also used, Esus#4. It's a chromatic chord, so off-key, but contextually it may not be wrong (MM used it also).

I like the slightly slower rhythm of it. I think it would be darker/creepier/more atmospheric if you went just a bit slower. That may not be your goal, but I for one would like it!

I don't think it is (I checked the tuning before recording), but it's the only explanation I have for him to think it is out of key.

"Kraid" is one of the most beautiful songs in the Metroid canon, and this version makes it even moreso.

Great job!

Beautiful! Of the the best versions I have heard yet! Great to hear a classical version of Kraid, nice interpretation.
