Re: Meshuggah New Album Release Date Announced!! (3/27/12)
Of all the stuff I've read, this makes me the most excited. "We've always tried to change how we write songs to keep it exciting, but on recent albums we've also been moving further away from working together as a band. On this album, though, everyone is working together. Every day that we're in the studio, we'll play whatever song we're working on, record a demo version of it to analyze at home, and then come back the next day, talk about it and try to make it better."
Also being mixed by the guy that did DEI. !!

Apparently that's track 7, "Break These Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion". Not a huge fan of the sound of the vocals, but I'm sold on the rest. I might like them more after a few more listens.... Edit: YEP! this track is awesome!!

What's wrong with the vox in your opinion? The mix? Because his voice is definitely changing.

Re: Meshuggah New Album Release Date Announced!! (3/27/12)
Been listening to Fallujah's "The Harvest Wombs" and this track nao. I'm new to Technical Death.
I don't know, it feels like the tracks are not going off the ground. The base is solid, nice groove, there are some attempts to make something out of it, but it more or less remains the same.
Guess Technical Metal is just not for me.

Stemage wrote: What's wrong with the vox in your opinion? The mix? Because his voice is definitely changing. Yeah, I think it's the mix. I know that it's probably closer to what his voice actually sounds like, but I prefer the shrieking sound of his vocals in Catch 33, than the guttural growls he has live and on this track. He still has great phrase dynamics (if that makes any sense at all). I think I'm warming up to the vocals -- I think I'll like them by the time the album comes out. danimal93 wrote: goes on waaaay too long Completely agree. The track didn't have too much variety, which I'm okay with since they're dropping the complexity of obZen and going for more of a groovy style, but the outro dragged the song out too long. I wonder if this track will seem just as long when listening to the full album? Still, it's one of the heaviest tracks ever, and I like it. Metalink wrote: Guess Technical Metal is just not for me Go listen to Destroy Erase Improve. Not my favorite meshuggah album, but undeniably their best.

Grl you crazy I'm liking it so far. Their s**t is just fun to count now, and for only being 1 track on the album I'm happy. I'd love another DEI, but we aren't gonna get that. I'm just surprised that they can still come up with new stuff with the entire metal world ripping off their style. It's not my favorite song, and it isn't as big a slap-in-the-face as Bleed was, but I like it.

OK just listened to it again, and I want a David Fincher directed video - a la Judith. I think that's my favorite music video, 'cept for Sledge Hammer of course.

I think Chaosphere and Nothing are better on the whole because I got into those albums more than DEI, but about 2/3 of the tracks on DEI are 300x better than anything else they've done. I have weird musical tastes I guess....

Re: Meshuggah New Album Release Date Announced!! (3/27/12)
I'd imagine it's hard to stay prolific after being together for 20 years. I'm just glad they're able to run on a schedule that's comfortable for them. I'm not into that "relevancy" argument. You could say that about any band that starts a trend. To say they are no longer relevant assumes that all this downtuned djent groove stuff is the same, and it isn't. Metal fans are so fickle. I still have "concerns" over the new album, but I don't care that much. I'm just glad (and amazed) they're still together.

The main thing I'm wondering is why it always takes them so damn long to come out with anything. There's a lot of good points in that article. Obzen, Catch 33, and Eye (I?) didn't really do it for me. I love Nothing, but I guess I didn't need more albums that didn't do the same style nearly as well. I mean on Obzen, I only found 2 or 3 significant riffs on the entire album that actually had rests in them. I think whats really been killing EVERYONE is the leads. What the f**k Fredrik? You can't release Sol Niger Within and then just barely play any solos anymore. And the ones you do play are really half assed.

Re: Meshuggah New Album Release Date Announced!! (3/27/12)
I like I EP. There's some cool riffs in there, and the absolutely INSANE part of that song is kinda cool. I usually skip to like 5:30 into the song, and hardly ever listen to the end.
Obzen had some good solos IMHO. Combustion, Pineal Gland Optics and Dancers to a Discordant System(this one barely makes it in) all have solos I like. It's from Nothing, but one of my favorite solos from Fredrik is the one from Organic Shadows, and the groove after the solo is awesome.
I read somewhere in an interview that there was a "waltzy" song on the new album. I'm really interested to hear that song because I really liked the waltz-like groove from Dancers to a Discordant System (which is really the only good part of that song, let's be honest).

After hearing the new Periphery track, it's pretty clear why we still need 'shuggah.

Re: Meshuggah New Album Release Date Announced!! (3/27/12)
The groove at 3:48 (DO NOT LOOK DOWN) is some of the best I've from the 'shug in a while. LOL at all the nicknames people are giving them lately...
Fredrik's kinda reminding me of Guthrie Govan with that solo, something from Rhode Island Shred or something. I would categorize it as closer to bluegrass, but I could be completely wrong.

I'm actually just starting to get into Meshuggah. Very interesting band. A lot of chug riffs, but this stuff is SO out there. I can't believe what I'm listening to sometimes.

Re: Meshuggah New Album Release Date Announced!! (3/27/12)
After listening to Do Not Look Down a lot (which is one of my favorite 'post-Nothing' tracks ever), I like the first track they released even more. Before, I thought Break Those Bones was a bit too long, but depending on its place in the album, it could be a cool atmospheric transition to something, and I can't wait to hear how it fits in.
